Custom Thermowood Louvers for Ava Restaurant | Miami / Coconut Grove

Deckmasters of Florida was selected to design and fabricate a large-scale custom wood louver system for Ava Restaurant, a newly opened, high-end dining destination in the Miami / Coconut Grove area. Ava’s design aesthetic—Mediterranean-inspired, warm, and architectural—called for precision craftsmanship and materials that could deliver both beauty and long-term performance.

The result is a magazine-quality installation that has already generated significant attention, praise, and industry interest.

This project was a six-figure commercial installation, consisting of dozens of custom stationary wood louvers designed to seamlessly integrate into the restaurant’s existing woodwork and architectural detailing. The louvers are fixed (non-operable) and were engineered purely for visual impact, cohesion, and architectural rhythm throughout a large portion of the restaurant.

Each louver was:

• Individually fabricated 
• Shop-built over a three-month period 
• Constructed with extreme consistency and tight tolerances 
• Designed to visually disappear into the surrounding wood elements
   

At peak production, our team was fabricating louvers nearly seven days a week to meet quality standards and project timelines.

All louvers were fabricated using Maximo Thermowood, a premium thermally modified wood known for its stability, durability, and refined appearance. Thermowood undergoes a specialized heat-and-steam process (no chemicals) that enhances the wood’s resistance to moisture, movement, and environmental stress—making it ideal for high-end commercial interiors and exterior-adjacent spaces.

Maximo Thermowood was selected for this project because it offers:

All Maximo materials for this project were supplied by Lumber Plus, the Miami-based distributor for Maximo Wood products.

Every louver was assembled using stainless steel fasteners, ensuring long-term structural integrity and corrosion resistance. The fastening system was intentionally chosen to match the performance expectations of a premium hospitality environment while remaining visually discreet.

This was not a kit system or prefabricated product.
These louvers were custom-built, one by one, in our shop—cut, assembled, and finished to exacting standards.

The success of this project lies in how seamlessly the louvers integrate into Ava’s design. They don’t compete with the architecture—they complete it. The louvers enhance depth, texture, and shadow while maintaining a cohesive flow with the restaurant’s existing wood finishes.

The restaurant ownership and design team were extremely pleased with the final result, and the installation has already become one of the most talked-about features of the space.
